Adree Songco-Aguas wins poster award at CNS
Congratulations to CNC Undergraduated Fellow Adree Songco-Aguas on being awarded a poster award at the Computational Neuroscience Society meeting, which took place last week in Seattle. She presented on "Modeling rod-cone parallel processing in the retina." Adree presents a similar poster at the FASEB meeting. Adree is a recent Neurobiology graduate. The CNC Computational Neuroscience Undergraduate Training Program was able to support Adree's work in the lab of Fred Rieke. Following [...]
Adrienne Fairhall appointed to BRAIN Initiative Working Group 2.0
CNC co-director and Professor of Physiology and Biophysics Adrienne Fairhall was recently appointed to the BRAIN Initiative's Advisory Committee to the Director Working Group 2.0. The Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative was announced in April 2013, as part of the White House Neuroscience Initiative. The primary objective of the initiative is the development of new tools and technologies to understand and manipulate neural circuits, with the ultimate goal of revolutionizing [...]
Graduate and Undergraduate Training Program Applications now Open!
We are happy to announce that applications for 2018 admission to both our undergraduate and graduate training programs are now open! The Computational Neuroscience Graduate Training Program provides up to 2 years of funding to students working in theoretical and computational neuroscience. Limited positions are available for non-US citizens. For more information and the application, please visit the CNTG page. Applications are due August 1. Gabrielle Gutierrez wins NIH Pathway to Independence Award
Congratulations to Gabrielle Gutierrez, CNC postdoc working Eric Shea-Brown and Fred Rieke, who has been awarded a prestigious NIH Pathway to Independence award. The award will support Gabrielle's continued postdoctoral work at the interface of applied math and biophysics, and then support her transition to an independent faculty role. Gabrielle will continue her work on the neural circuit architecture of the retina as it relates to processing and compressing statistical features of visual information. [...]
June 18: Ethical Engineering Workshop
LIVESTREAM LINK Please join us on June 18 for a workshop on ethical engineering, organized by Adrienne Fairhall and co-hosted by the CNC, UWIN, CSNE and the eScience Institute. The workshop will open with a panel discussion form Blaise Agüera y Arcas (Google), Howard Chizeck (UW Electrical Engineering), Ryan Calo (UW School of Law), and Sara Goering (UW Philosophy). The panel will be followed by an interactive workshop and small group discussions. The [...]
Kameron Harris awarded Washington Research Foundation fellowship
Kameron Harris, postdoctoral fellow in UW CNC faculty member Bing Brunton's lab, has been selected as a member of the inaugural cohort of Washington Research Foundation Postdoctoral Fellows. The three-year fellowship will support Kameron in his work focused on expanding our understanding of brain wiring and activity using machine learning techniques. Kameron recently completed his doctoral training in Applied Mathematics under the mentorship of CNC co-director Eric Shea-Brown. See more on Kameron's research [...]
