The workshop will open with a panel discussion form Blaise Agüera y Arcas (Google), Howard Chizeck (UW Electrical Engineering), Ryan Calo (UW School of Law), and Sara Goering (UW Philosophy). The panel will be followed by an interactive workshop and small group discussions. The [...]

Kameron Harris awarded Washington Research Foundation fellowship

Kameron Harris, postdoctoral fellow in UW CNC faculty member Bing Brunton's lab, has been selected as a member of the inaugural cohort of Washington Research Foundation Postdoctoral Fellows. The three-year fellowship will support Kameron in his work focused on expanding our understanding of brain wiring and activity using machine learning techniques. Kameron recently completed his doctoral training in Applied Mathematics under the mentorship of CNC co-director Eric Shea-Brown. See more on Kameron's research [...]

Kaitlyn Casimo named one of the 2018 Husky 100

Joint UWIN-Computational Neuroscience fellow Kaitlyn Casimo has been named one of the 2018 Husky 100. This award recognizes 100 undergraduate and graduate students from across Bothell, Seattle, and Tacoma campuses "who are making the most of their time at UW". Kaitlyn is a graduate student in the Ojemann lab, studying the electrophysiology of human resting state and task based brain connectivity, working with patients undergoing epilepsy surgery. Kaitlyn has been active in scientific [...]

Neural Computation and Engineering Minor and Graduate Certificate

We are happy to announce two new options for students interested in Neural Computation and Engineering- an undergraduate minor and a graduate certificate. These programs are open to all UW students, and offer interdisciplinary training on quantitative, mathematical, engineering, and computational approaches. Please see the individual pages for more information on the requirements and how to enroll.

Frankenstein at the Science Center

Tomorrow evening, October 25th, Neural Computation and Engineering graduate student Kaitlyn Casimo will be presenting a Halloween special at the Pacific Science Center: “Frankenstein: a modern postmortem”. This talk will present an updated take on the fascinating moral ambiguities of the Frankenstein story and where we stand today, both technically and ethically, on the engineering of minds. "Frankenstein" is the latest in a series that Kaitlyn has presented in her role as a [...]
